I can't figure out when Reagan became the Republican hero. Is this something that happens to every president (except Nixon) after they die?

I was a child in the 1980s and remember that Reagan gave Gorbachev a "high five," and the mess with Iran-Contra affair that resulted in my cartoon watching time being put on hold so that my mom could watch Oliver North testify before congress.

What does a "young" voter such as myself do when they don't know the answer to a question? Well, either they believe what they hear the candidates saying (i.e. Reagan was the best president since...), or they search Google. Here's an article I found that was helpful: http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=1832

Somehow it doesn’t match the image that the Republican candidates are portraying. What else are the candidates lying about? Or is the media re-writing history? Are they thinking that most of the voters don’t remember?

It just occurred to me that the 18-year-olds who can vote this year were born in 1990 – they were 10 years old when the current Bush took office. I grew up hearing the name Oliver North over and over, and they heard the name Kenneth Star and may have watched Clinton talk one night about not having sexual relations with "that woman." Then there was the famous dress. That might be their only memory of a Democratic president. Yikes!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5077986.post-55905729055759460942008-01-25T02:29:00.000-05:002008-01-25T02:29:00.000-05:00Keep in mind, McCain went to the 2004 Republican c...Keep in mind, McCain went to the 2004 Republican convention and praised George W. Bush to the skies. The senator evidently has a soft spot for raging incompetents with attitude who worm their way into high office.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
