Racism 101

In case you didn't know, mes amis, Patrick J. Buchanan appears to be a racist. And it seems to be perfectly fine with his bosses at MSNBC.

Your blogstress has a piece up at The Guardian's lively bloggish site, Comment Is Free, that looks at the boorishness with which Buchanan is permitted to get away, such as this little critique of Barack Obama speech about race and his former pastor, Jeremiah Wright:

It is the same old con, the same old shakedown that black hustlers have been running since the Kerner Commission blamed the riots in Harlem, Watts, Newark, Detroit and a hundred other cities on, as Nixon put it, 'everybody but the rioters themselves.'
Hat-tip to guitar-god David B. Cole for passing the Buchanan screed along to your Webwench.

Whether or not he's bigoted, Buchanan is ignorant. The quoted statement is the boilerplate conservative Republican response about racial problems and discrimination. They seek to dismiss such discussions out of hand by depicting what they see as whiners and complainers as being examples of the left's "culture of victimhood."

That, conservatives think, invalidates whatever complaints have been brought up, so we can all get on to more important matters, like getting rid of an excellent Justice Department attorney because there was a rumor about her being a lesbian.

It's probably just as well MSNBC puts Buchanan on. He's exhibit A of the sort of people who should never be allowed to get their hands on the levers of power in this country.
