Yes, we can

If you've been living in a cave, or away from a computer or BlackBerry or some other tethering device, you may not know of this brilliant piece of music by Will.I.Am, which is based entirely around the oratory of one Barack Obama. It's breathtaking. But don't take my word for it. Check it out.

Here is my big question about Obamea:

On the chance that he is not able to achieve universal revolutionary change in the political system, and get things done by getting Republicans to support his goals, what is Plan B?

I saw and commented on this video at another blog. Essentially, it's good for what it is and might add to Obama's already impressive charisma.

But in building an image as a hip rock-star-like phenom, it does Obama a disservice. He's a Harvard-educated attorney and U.S. senator who's serious about serious matters.

I would've liked the video better if it was shorter and at least at the end included some meaningful statement from Obama himself.

nrglaw raises a pertinent question. Obama as president might be able to chip away at Republicans and elicit some token cooperation at the margins.

But if Obama thinks he can reach some new kumbaya plateau of consistent compromise with neocon Republicans, he's extremely naive.

For that to work, the GOP, especially in Congress, would have to have a large contingent of moderates. The truth is, radical-right movement conservatives ran most moderates out of the leadership, even out of office and out of the party, years ago. (So long, Chuck Hagel.) The few who remain have been marginalized and made to march in lockstep.

The bottom line is, it will be OK for Obama to reach across the aisle if he becomes president. I just advise him to count his fingers afterward.
